Collection of 'Learning from home' packs

19th Mar 2020

19/03/20

A Thuismitheoirí,

Tomorrow, you will be required to collect your child’s ‘Learning from Home’ pack. We are all in unprecedented territory with this situation and I would like to thank you all for your continued support through this difficult time.

The staff have prepared Home Learning Packs for each child which will provide Literacy, Numeracy and other topic activities for the foreseeable future. They will also be updating you through the Seesaw app and providing further practical tasks and online activities through this platform. Please ensure you use the barcode included in your pack to register for Seesaw.  Please note- If there is any activity or task that is causing undue stress or anxiety at home, please leave it and revisit it at a later stage.

Although it is vitally important to continue to build on the learning of your child(ren) over the course of the coming weeks by completing the work assigned by teachers, this is an ideal opportunity to give your child(ren) the chance to learn and experience things that can’t always be taught in the classroom. Take the opportunity to develop an interest in gardening. Get outside, dig for worms, plant seeds, nurture them and measure their growth. In the kitchen you could bake as a family, cook dinner together and clean up. It is also important for the children to develop resilience to boredom. Our minds should not be stimulated 24/7 and boredom is a healthy thing. Let your child(ren) get bored and let them be creative in thinking of ways to entertain themselves. Although this is a testing time, look at the positivities in the situation and what can be gained from it.

Children in Rang 4-7 have all received the login details for C2K My School, Mathletics and Nessy. These sites should all be used to support their learning. Instructions on logging on to these have been included. In particular, Seomra Nuachta will prove to be very useful in the maintenance and development of an Ghaeilge for your child(ren). Please ensure they read, listen to and comment on the articles posted.

Our children are all accustomed to the routine of the school day and the importance of establishing a routine at home cannot be understated. Your child(ren) will find themselves in a very unusual situation and their health and well-being; both physical and mental, should be our primary concern. Create a daily timetable which includes getting up early, school work, learning times tables, reading, down time, time outside and helping out around the house amongst others activities. Please see the examples below for inspiration.

Collection of learning packs:

Packs of work for your child(ren) can be collected from your child’s classroom tomorrow morning at the follwing times:

Naíscoil: 9:00am- 9:30am

Rang 1-3: 10:00am- 10:30am

Rang 4-7: 10:30am- 11:00am

In order to ensure social distancing, please ensure that only one parent/family member comes into the school to collect the packs. It also goes without saying that if you are displaying any signs or symptoms of Covid-19, please do not attend. If you have a child in Rang 1-3 and another in Rang 4-7, multiple packs can be collected at one time.

Finally, in order to ensure that the spreading of the virus is kept to a minimum, please follow all guidelines on social distancing. Limit social interaction and look out for other members of the community. Most importantly, please take care of yourselves and your family.

Le meas,

Mícheál Ó Brádaigh,

Príomhoide
